Review provided by World of Ink Network

“We are all different but our unique traits make us who we truly are. It is important for kids to realize that they don't have to compare themselves to others in order to be accepted. Sometimes, they have to accept themselves first in order to be accepted by others.” ~Irene Roth, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Committed Writers

About the Book:

Milton is a story of a turtle. Unlike other turtles with round or oval shells, Milton has a square shell. One afternoon, and being new to the area, he decides to take a walk to the pond to relax.

Just when he thinks he finds the perfect spot, he can't stay. Not wanting to cause a problem, he goes further up the pond, only to discover, home is the best place to relax.

EXCERPT:

“Hey, look at me. I can sit on a turtle. You are a

turtle, aren’t you?” the frog asked, with some

hesitation.

Milton, hearing the same question before, turned

his head to see the frog sitting on his back and

simply answered, “of course I am. Will you please

get off my shell.”

“Well,” said the frog, as he jumped off and landed

next to Milton’s head, “I’ve never seen a turtle

with a square shell.”

The first in a series, Cassie and Chloe's Captivating Crystal Crawlspace Chronicles introduces readers to two brave, adventurous girls named Cassie and Chloe. As the story unfolds, the two curious girls find themselves stumbling into an exciting new world filled with incredible new sights. Along with their adorable Pomeranian Moondoggie and their sweet cat Pierre, the sisters explore the new world of Serendipity Springs and meet a lot of curious but delightful people and find a lot of amazing adventures.

The siblings Vicky and Nicky, who live in Serendipity Springs, become Cassie and Chloe's guides to show them this new world--and along the way, form a deep friendship. The group of six: Cassie, Chloe, Vicky, Nicky, Moondoggie, and Pierre -take part in a lot of exciting different activities. Among many other spectacular adventures, the six friends play exciting games in a place called the House of Fun, have exciting adventures in many different places from New York to Japan at a place called the Dress-Up Pavilion, enter into the worlds of different books in the Magical Mystical Library, and see dozens of other incredible places in Serendipity Springs.

However, the group is also troubled by the appearance of two evil twins. The brave girls, along with their pets and their new friends, try to help the people of Serendipity Springs stop the twins evil plan and must use logic and courage to outwit the evil pair.

Cassie and Chloe meet many friendly people in Serendipity Springs and form plenty of wonderful friendships. The adventures they go on in this new world are exciting and very imaginative. The girls and their friends are great role models to exemplify friendship, creativity, and bravery in the face of danger. The different adventures Cassie and Chloe find in Serendipity Springs will captivate and delight the imaginations of children. I recommend this book for children around ages 7-11 who enjoy a good book filled with wonderful characters and exciting adventures.

“Why Knot?  Benefits of Teaching A Child How To Tie A Tie”.

As someone who attends countless conferences, seminars, and business related meetings, I am expected to dress professionally while representing my company and myself with class and style. With over 10 years of experience in entrepreneurship and the corporate world, I somehow have still not mastered the skill of tying my own tie.

Whether from the frustration of failing over and over or laziness of learning a new skill because I am dependent on technology and other people to fix all of my problems, my lack of being able to tie my own tie is quite embarrassing. I can write a 50 page business plan, deliver an hour long presentation, and write in-depth articles, but cannot master a piece of fancy fabric.

After watching an endless supply of YouTube instructional videos and trying to read how-to blog posts on tying ties, I have decided to turn to a children’s book to gain another skill and finally relieve myself of the worries that come from asking my wife to tie my ties for me before every conference and meeting I attend.

I am turning to the book ‘Learn To Tie A Tie With The Rabbit And The Fox.’ I must be honest, although I am not ashamed to learn from children’s books because they explain how to accomplish things in a language that anyone can understand and follow along with – this is a skill that I want to learn not just for myself, but to pass down to my future children.

This book is about a Green vintage locomotive cartoon character that spreads his goodwill, with mother nature’s wonders, like constructing a Rainbow, filling a lake, making a tornado, and more, as most is written in a poetic and educational form, not only structured for a beginner, while being peppered with rhymes, chimes, and colorful Illustrations, but for an advanced reader as well, that will enjoy the definitions for each illustration, as he or she thumbs through the glossary, looking up words like appreciation, conservation, awareness, tornado, and more. A learning experience to be remembered and appreciated, may this book be one of the many your child reads and enjoys.

    About the Author:

Alfred Guajardo was born in Loveland, Colorado, raised in Sacramento, California. My nephew and niece Juan Manuel, and Selena Rose Guajardo, asked me to write a poem for them, one thing led to another, and after a year and a half I ended up writing a book that they both enjoy, and my philosophy in reading, is that if your child is not able to read, he or she will learn sooner or later, better sooner, then later, as reading is the stepping stone towards a never ending educational journey, In due time with a little help, your child will not only learn to read but will enjoy it as well. Thank you and enjoy your quantum leap in meeting your child for a unique odyssey.

The salty and seaworthy crew who have spent their lives skimming the sea, find that what is beyond the horizon and the journeys that get us there, are shaped by the imagination and spirit we color them with. For children of all ages who enjoy the sea, from the deck or the shore, this adventure begs to be read again and again. Illustrate the events in this journal as you would record the voyage. Share with family and friends and see what they think of the surprise ending!

    DAUGHTER SAYS

    1. What is the story about? The book is about a ship that is sailing in the sea when it comes upon a big scary sea monster.
    2. What do you think of the cover and the design of the book? I like the cover of the second book better because the first book only has a tiny ship in the corner and the second book has a huge ship in the middle. I like that in the second book there are pretty scrolls for drawing pictures on and in the first book, I didn’t like that you couldn’t draw pictures on each page.
    3. What is your favorite part of the book? I really like that you can draw pictures on each page and I like the surprise ending but, ssshhh… I’m not telling.
    4. What is your least favorite part of the book? I didn’t like that, in the first book, you couldn’t draw out the story on each page but could only draw a few pictures at the end on a couple pages. I like the second book much, much better.
    5. What did you think about the story in the book? I liked the story in the book and I liked the rhyming and the end was surprising. I didn’t see THAT coming!
    6. Who do you think would like this book? I think that it’s a good book because I don’t know about any other book where you can draw your own pictures and I recommend it to boys and girls six years old and up.
    Daughter Rating: ★★★★★
    http://motherdaughterbookreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Renee-avatar-with-cat.jpg
    MOM SAYS

My thoughts: The story in the book is told through lilting, rhyming verse and makes the reader feel as if they themselves are on a tall ship sailing the deep blue sea. The story provides the reader with adventure, excitement and just the right level of tension for young children. There is a twist at the end that I think children would really enjoy – and I can say in all honestly that I did not see it coming!
Aside from the cover, the book has no illustrations. In lieu of illustrations, children reading the book (or being read to) are encouraged to read the book from start to finish and then use their imagination to draw their own pictures interpreting the story. Each page is designed to look like an old weathered scroll and has some text and a wide space where a child can draw a picture. What I love about the design is that the text is so descriptive that it gives some direction to children for what to draw and which features to include in their picture.

We love the cuteness of drawings and the light, delicate colours.
We love the rhymes, a good exercise for non-mother-tongue children to improve their English knowledge.
We love the story, the strength of tiny May in following her dreams. We love the good example: if you want something you must be ready to work hard!
We love the highlight on dental hygiene, the importance of brushing teeth and we will download soon the extras!
We love to read it, and read it and read it again.... as we did with previous release by Jo Linsdell "OUT AND ABOUT AT THE ZOO"! =)

We love the book itself. Fairy May is a new character in our life and we hope in future new adventures to be released!"

    Night Buddies Launches Today!

    Night Buddies
Subtitle: Impostors and One Far-Out Flying Maching
    Second in Night Budies series
    Written by: Sands Hetherington
    Illustrations by: Jessica Love
    ISBN: 978-0-9847417-2-4
    Releases February 1, 2013
Juvenile Fiction/Chapter Books for Ages 7 and up

Review by Fran Lewis from the World of Ink Network

Night Buddies, Impostors, and One Far-Out Flying Machine, the second book in the Night Buddies series, has a ton of mischief going on all over the Borough, done by a red crocodile and causing confusion and hard feelings everywhere.

For young John Degraffenreidt, lying awake at night is no reason to fret when it brings a bright red crocodile named Crosley out from under his bed. Night Buddies like Crosley promise a big adventure to any kid not sleepy yet--and tonight is no different! Out of bed, and into the city, John starts on a very special Program (Night-Buddies-speak for adventure) with his crocodile friend. Crosley is a unique, wacky character, the only red crocodile in the world for sure, but look-alikes have started popping up all over town, committing crimes, causing confusion, and making Crosley crazy at the sight of them. The imposters must be stopped, and Night Buddies John and Crosley are just the ones to stop them! Stakeouts and wild chases in a fantastic flying machine, far-out schemes to snare the imposters with the help of old friends and new ones, and a never-ending supply of Crusted CrĆØme Fro-Madge frozen yogurt make for one totally super night.

Night Buddies John and Crosley have been enlisted to stop these crocs from continuing their crime spree. But, just how will they do it is really quite unique and just what kind of a program will this turn out to be. Imposters are those that pretend to be someone or something that they are not. How will everyone tell the difference between Crosley and his doubles you might say? Who created them and why? Then we learn more about how they intend to do this.

Author Sands Hetherington teaches children the importance of honesty, teamwork, caring, obeying the rules and the laws and how to be a good friend. Illustrations by Jessica Love to help bring the characters to life. Just what do you think? Can a young boy be best friends with a crocodile, solve crimes and freeze his parents with his special telescope pointed at them. Will they realize what he was missing for so long or will time be stopped? What happens at the end will surprise you? What happens to the moles and the impostors will renew your faith in kindness. An interesting story but at times hard to follow and many unusual words that required the author to put their translations and a glossary at the beginning which many kids might need to use or just make up their own meanings for these words from the context of the story.

He and young John developed the Crosley crocodile character in the series during months of bedtime story give-and-take. With only their own ingenuity, the Hellandback kids must rely on help from a mystic guide, unearthly creatures, and talking animals as they encounter the black plague, deformed beings, a life sucking immortal, and a long trek from exile. Throughout their adventures, the Hellandback kids learn valuable life lessons, and of course, to be careful what they wish for.

Summer vacation is coming to an end, and the Hellandback kids are off to Scotland. After finding a very long and curious toenail in Chris' room, his father decides it's time they should go get acquainted with their great grandmother.
Upon arriving they discover that she is living in an old Hospital and she's not alone. Each child is eventually sent to separate points in time where the only way to return home is to overcome their own weaknesses and overpower the creatures they come across.

With the combination of a mythical guide and several variations of beings to help or deter their way. The Hellandback kids have to become stronger and bolder if they want to survive and return home again.

Each of the Hellandback kids have very different personalities and their trials use those to both support and hinder the struggles they have to endure. At first I was unsure if the story was going to take a more humorous turn or horror story. There were definitely moments of fun, both in dialogue and imaginative creatures. But there are some really tough situations and scary beings that come into play also. If your picking a book for a younger reader make sure they can handle that.

The fact that the children have to learn about life lessons and each experience their own array of battles. The reader can gain a lot of insight from these adventures as well, no matter the age. There are some pretty intense moments, but also those that made me smile and laugh a bit. My favorite character was Brittany, although they all will eventually show very caring and daring sides. Each have their own distinct personalities and their own battles to fight.

This read was definitely something different and unexpected. It makes you think and very enjoyable as well. It gives a whole new meaning to "Be Careful What You Wish For"

    About the Book:

A twelve-year-old boy named Vin, goes on a mission—reluctantly. He doesn’t share the optimism of the knights of old who embarked on impossible missions without a doubt they’d succeed. When magnetic compost heaps, man-eating bubble baths and other disasters erupt, Vin comes close to packing in the whole ridiculous business. He calls it Operation BS, his code name for a mission to introduce his sister to a boy she has a crush on. He doesn’t want to play matchmaker, but Meg’s promise to reward him with a David Beckham autographed soccer jersey is a decisive incentive.

The story is about the disasters that pile up when a seventh-grader’s brilliant plan to meet his sister’s challenge takes more than one wrong turn. Life tosses challenges at all of us. It would be incredibly boring if it didn’t. What matters is what we learn from them.

KA-BOOM! Makes Big Hit with World of Ink Network

    Title: KA-BOOM!
    Written by: Alyce Joy

Genre of Book: Children’s Chapter Book Fantasy Adventure
    Publisher: Halo Publishing Int.
    ISBN-10: 161244069X
    ISBN-13: 978-1612440699
    Paperback: 46 pages
    Date: July 2012

Review provided by World of Ink Network

KA-BOOM! is about a little fairy named Sprout that runs into trouble quite often. She has a shoe fetish, but is one of the queen’s favorites because in the end she gets the job done.
Sprout meets a little girl named Taylor after blowing up Taylor’s dollhouse. Sprout doesn’t give up trying to get Taylor to trust her. She and Taylor finally become friends after Sprout shrinks Taylor and together they have a fantastic adventure. Taylor never thought she would be talking to Sir Leapsalot, let alone ride on his back and hopping lily pads. The message? Never give up.

Besides teaching children how to deal with fear and anger, Alyce Joy does a great job showing children how we can’t judge each other from first impressions. Children also learn friendships are something that grow as we get to know each other and face what life throws at us together.

What Others Have Said About the Book:

The author introduces some really cool vocabulary words for kids like lollapalooza and cumbersome, imperative, pathetic and many more added to a glossary of Sprout’s favorite words at the end of the book. Just think how cool that will be when you go to school and the teacher asks for words that mean the same as these and you come up with gallant for courageous or even humongous for huge. ~Fran Lewis, Book Reviewer, Author and Focus on Discussion blog talk radio host

This is a charming book that incorporates a magical fairy, adventure and a great message about having a positive attitude. You will be enchanted with Taylor and her adventures with a non-traditional fairy that has a great vocabulary! This is a perfect bedtime story that is bound to be a real page turner. ~Connie Marzullo, Principal, Sharon Center Elementary School

This is a fun book. It uses fantasy to create a sense of reality for children. The characters are colorful and invite children to create their own vision of what they look like. The word dictionary, in the back of the book, will not only define some of the words, but also provide a useful skill set for the children. A very readable book! ~Michael E. Carlson, Ed.D, Former Superintendent of Highland School System

    About the Author:

Alyce Joy was blessed with four children for whom she composed bedtime verses every night. That inspired her to publish a children’s book of prayers, entitled, “Priceless Gems.” When her children were grown, she began to write stories for her grandchildren.
Always fascinated with arts and crafts, she taught herself the art of pyrography. This fired her imagination, and she started burning life-sized pictures of wildlife onto all the doors of her home. Her wood burnings are scattered through the U.S. and Canada.
After deciding to put away her burning tools and torches, she enrolled in, and graduated from the Institute of Children’s Literature.
Alyce Joy hopes every child who reads her stories will look forward to each new adventure, as her favorite fairy becomes entangled into many, outrageous happenstances.

    Book Review

Reviewed by Joy H. for Readers Favorite!

“HEADACHE” by Crystal Marcos continues the whimsical adventures of Peter and Lina and the Candonite people that she introduced in her first book “Bellyache”. Peter and Lina were hoping to never see the villain again, but unfortunately he shows up, and this time in their own hometown. Goaltan’s main goal was to destroy all of the candy stores around, including the one owned by Peter’s papa. And Goaltan is willing to go to the extremes to get what he wants! But Peter and Lina are not alone either. They are both surprised to see their new Candonite friends from Maple Town show up to help in the fight to save the town’s sweet shops from Goaltan and his horrible Peblars.

Candonite people? Never heard of them? Me either, until I read this book. Candonite people are those little people made out of candy, but then are they real people too? Crystal Marcos creates a wonderful cast of unique, exceptional characters that tell the story of “Headache” so very well. I didn’t read the first book, but this one kept me hopping! With all of the twists and turns, I had to keep reading to see what would happen next with these fun kids. I love the idea of “Candy Kids!” It makes for such a sweet story! I highly recommend this wonderfully well-written book. It is a tale that will keep you smiling well after you finish its pages. And a wonderful read for your child around eight and over, because I think it is a bit too long for younger age children to read. I think you will be very happy you purchased this exciting children’s book.

Overall Thoughts and About the Book:

The Night Buddies series is an after lights-out adventure story that delights young readers and middle graders who relish roller coaster fantasy and fun, filled with unforgettable characters and an astonishing and inventive collection of magical whatchamacallits.
The first book in the series “Night Buddies and the Pineapple Cheesecake Scare” introduces young readers to a bright-red crocodile with the goofy name Crosley. Add in the fact Crosley wears a yellow jumpsuit and is a member of Night Buddies Amalgamated whose job is to rescue kids from lying in bed awake and take them out on adventures. Now throw in a young John who isn’t ready to go to sleep yet and you have the beginning of the story.

John learns Crosley is more than just a red crocodile, which is unique enough. Crosley is also allergic to water and breaks out doing the Black Bottom dance for hours. Now through in the fact Crosley and John are both totally goofy about pineapple cheesecakes. It’s no wonder why Night Buddies Amalgamated made them a team and sends them on a mission to find out why there is worldwide shortage of pineapple cheesecakes. They’re all vanishing at the world’s only pineapple cheesecake factory across town and Crosley sees this as huge emergency. This new Night Buddies’ assignment for tonight--to investigate the problem and set things right. Of course, Night Buddies call it a “Program” and it won’t be easy. It definitely won’t be dull!

The story is filled with well-drawn fascinating characters embellished with some excellent illustrations by Jessica Love. The fonts change with emotion and circumstances, a fact that makes every page a little artwork that keep the child’s eye involved in the book. And just to make sure the youngsters reading this book have the inside information for a mystery, a glossary of ‘Night Buddies Uncommon Words’ is supplied – explaining ‘Jeeks’, ‘Wuff’, ‘Snerk!’ etc.

    About the Author:

Sands Hetherington credits his son John for being his principal motivator. Sands raised his son as a single parent from the time John was six. He read to him every night during those formative years. He and young John developed the Crosley crocodile character in the series during months of bedtime story give-and-take. Sands majored in history at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and has an M.F.A. in creative writing and an M.A. in English from UNC-Greensboro. He lives in Greensboro.

    About the Illustrator:

Jessica Love grew up in California, with two artist parents. She studied printmaking and drawing at UC Santa Cruz, then went on to study acting at The Juilliard School in NYC.
Jessica currently resides in Brooklyn, New York, toggling back and forth between her work as an actor and her work as an artist.
