REVIEWER’S NAME: Jorge Barboza

PERMISSION TO REPRINT: X Yes

THE REVIEW ITSELF:

Tales2Inspire: The Diamond Collection – Series VI is exactly what its title promises — a sparkling gathering of real lives, real courage, and real heart. This collection reminded me why true stories often outshine fiction: no novelist could invent the journey of three friends driving a rebuilt Model T Ford from Venezuela to Michigan, or the quiet magic of a horse healing a grieving child, or an educator stitching entire worlds into puppets to light up classrooms across the globe.

What makes this anthology special is the community behind it. These are stories that earned their place — voted on, championed, and celebrated by fellow writers who recognized something worth sharing. That process shows in the quality. Every piece feels purposeful, every voice distinct.

By Jorge Barboza, originally for Amazon.com

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

When offered a retirement incentive too good to pass up, I ended my professional career as the reading/writing coordinator for the Department of Special Education in a prominent Long Island school district. But I had loved my work and worried about what i would do to fill my days ahead with equal fulfillment.  So after those twenty-one years as an active educator, I continued to pursue my love of writing, soon becoming co-editor of a popular Long Island web-zine. As I created and authored my column, Ordinary People, Extraordinary Lives, I solidified my special niche of investigative journalism, putting those same talents to work while writing Sex, Lies and Cosmetic Surgery. I secured a contract with a NY literary agent, who was sure this book would take off and fly. But to our utter dismay, it was rejected, with the explanation,  "She doesn't have enough of an author platform"  (Honestly, I didn't even know the meaning of that term at the time.) But then I began to think, "There must be tons of talented writers out there who haven't been given a chance. Why don't I create an "Authors Helping Authors" project. With that brainstorm in mind,  I initiated Tales2Inspire® in 2012, never dreaming it would grow in such strength and numbers as it has.

I work with a passion to deliver exactly what I envisioned and am thrilled to be able to help other talented writers build stronger author platforms. I continually strive to find new and innovative ways to strengthen their opportunities for discovery.

Tales2Inspire® has opened a whole new chapter in my life, and hopefully in the lives of many others.

A True Inspirational Gem

As a voracious reader and a novelist, I look for two elements in a book before investing time in it. It must have emotion—a story that moves me long after I’ve finished the last page—and it must teach me something. In the Moonstone Collection Books 1 & 2, I found both traits in every story. The stories were honest and raw because the authors weren’t afraid to speak the truth, their vulnerabilities on display. Even if I were hard-hearted (which I’m not, honestly), it would be difficult not to stand up and cheer for them. In “Happily Ever After,” I was gobsmacked by the abuse writer Donna Peczak suffered as a child at the hands of her parents and applauded when she pulled herself up.

I don’t know whom I admired more in “Setting my Lifeline Free,” writer Ellen Lenox Smith or the service dog who saved her life. Both taught me about the indomitable spirit.Love and laughter weave throughout the pages of both books. Although there is sadness underpinning “The Last Laugh,” I laughed out loud when author Ronnie Padwa Pelie described her elderly mother driving a motorized shopping cart. I couldn’t help but remember my own elderly mother’s experience with her motorized scooter. In the last stages of her life, she rammed her electric scooter through a plate-glass window (didn’t get a scratch) and then blamed the scooter for the accident!

As a former teacher, I also identified with author Laura Coy’s “A Blessing in Disguise.” She left a teaching career she loved to put her life back on track. Many words wandered through my thoughts when reading these stories—real, poignant, bitter-sweet, happy, inspirational, and . . . But the word that climbed to the top was strength. Each author showed the strength to turn the page in his or her life and make it better!

Many words wandered through my thoughts when reading these stories—real, poignant, bitter-sweet, happy, inspirational, and . . . But the word that climbed to the top was strength.

Each author showed the strength to turn the page in his or her life and make it better!

And behind each writer was their champion—Lois W. Stern—an accomplished writer who for more than a decade has embodied the spirit of writers helping writers. Kudos to her and all the authors in this collection of stories—a true inspirational gem.
