Author Teresa
Morrow does a fantastic job of helping the reader think
outside the box and
look for opportunities that abound around us. She
helps the reader understand
there are many influencers around us that help
mold us into their thinking,
but also consider that we can be an
influencer and affect those around us
concerning our thinking.
She discusses how we must learn to release control
as well as understand
that we can't change someone. When a person realizes
they need to change
then the opportunity for change comes, but not before
then. There are many
personal stories and illustrations to help the reader
learn from issues
within the author's life and thus easy for the reader to
stay focused and
learn without it reading like a textbook. This is a very
enjoyable,
valuable and rewarding read.
There is a section on focusing on
the positive as well as the blessings we
find surrounding us. Also, there is
a section on asking for help and not
trying to go the journey alone. How many
of us can relate and learn from
this?
She also discusses how anger can eat
one alive and destroy their
opportunity to be the best person they can
become. Then she challenges the
reader to get past their past and move
forward in life. Again, I must ask,
how many readers wouldn't need this
material at some point within their
life?
This book is so relational and
helpful. I would recommend it to anyone who
desires to improve their own life
and make a positive influence in the
lives of others.

Book Summary:
It is Jay Bartlett's first day as an ambulance driver. Instead of simply delivering his patient to the hospital safely, he hits a pedestrian as they arrive. The victim, Jordan Williams, is just arriving at the hospital to tend to her husband, who has had a heart attack. Instead of keeping vigil by his side, she is thrown into a coma and her own medical emergency. In his guilt, Jay drops his own life and stays with Jordan. Their lives soon become intertwined both in the present as well as in the past as a story of love over time unfolds.

This book goes back and forth between a few different perspectives and while sometimes I find that hard to follow in other books, I enjoyed it in this one. It was intriguing to me that I could fall so hard for the main character, a man with so many flaws, and want so badly for the woman he injured to wake up from her coma so they could talk face to face. The author does a good job building a story that makes the reader know what's going on without showing the characters. The reader wants nothing more than to shake the characters to clue them in! That's part of the beauty of writing, we just can't do that! We have to wait! I won't give away the ending, but I can't wait for some of the people I know to read this book so we can talk about it. It is ambiguous enough that each reader can determine how she thinks it ends. I know what I think and now I want to hear what others have to say. Self-published books are sometimes hard to read, but I found this one intriguing, well written, and an excellent read all the way through.

Dead Bishops Don't Lie starts off with a gruesome murder and
quickly gets underway with a plot that unfolds at breakneck speed in hugely
interesting locations. Baby's characters have depth and substance. His heroes
are people that we would all like to spend an evening with, and I was cheering
(and fearing) for the good guys right from the beginning. His villains, and
there are plenty of them, are twisted and believable. The plot is a marvelous
story that kept me engaged and caring about what happens next. Fast-paced and
intelligently drawn, it kept me turning pages. This is a solid first effort from
a writer who is definitely someone to watch. Can't wait for the next
installment!

Goodreads Reviewer Praises First Novel

Naturally, Charlie is the first novel by S.L. Scott and
I was honored and excited to have the opportunity to read an advance
copy.
Charlie (Charles) Adams and Charlie (Charlotte) Barrow meet across a
crowded subway in Manhattan. They are 20-somethings working and living in the
city, each looking for something more. Charlie (Charles) comes
from wealth and society but rejects that to pursue his dreams of writing.
Charlie (Charlotte) works in an auction house and is recovering from
recent heartbreak.
The couple
encounters one another again by chance on a busy nhattan street and they
decide to be friends. The journey of their friendship and love is
the heart of this story. However, when Charlie
(Charlotte) is about to declare her feelings, events from their past catch up
with them and sadness ensues. Fortunately for the characters and
the readers, there is a happily ever after.
Naturally,
Charlie is a love story but it also teaches the very important lesson that
you have to love yourself before you can truly love another. I
must say I could not put this book down. I read it straight
through in one sitting! I fell in love with the characters.
I loved their banter, their games about whether words were
real or not and their friendship. I laughed and cried along with them.
The story is written using alternating points of view of the two
Charlies, which I find a great writing technique as I always want to know how
each character interprets the same situation. The
backdrop of Manhattan life for 20-somethings was fun-- bars, clubs, coffee
shops, offices and friends. It also enabled the reentry of the sub characters,
which helped advance the story.
Naturally,
Charlie is a
well-written fast read that grabs you, takes you on a great ride, but lands you
safely and happily at the end! I would recommend it as the perfect
summer and vacation read. I look forward to more from S.L.
Scott!
