" Read It!  This should be required reading not just for overseas travelers, but for anyone living in an increasingly diversified and multi-cultural world who wants to create a more understanding and accepting society. Hopefully that's all of us.

As a globetrotting journalist and retiree, I have been exposed to many differences in attitude and behavior around the world and here in the U. S., which I always accepted but now admit never fully understood. Even in my 37 year bicultural marriage, behavior and practices I assumed to be quirks or the result of upbringing, I now realize are based in culture and tradition. Yes, 'Perception and Deception' opened my mind.
Mr. Joe (a title referenced in the book) not only explains cultural differences but more importantly why they exist. Even if that doesn't lead to total acceptance, at least it can help us become more tolerant, something today's world so desperately needs."
